At Worthington Connects, our mission is simple: to foster a sense of community and support among our neighbors, ensuring that no family in Worthington faces hardship alone. As we extend our efforts to support the Worthington Community throughout the year, we recognize the need for larger fundraisers to sustain our mission. In response, we’re excited to announce our first major event, the Christmas in July 5K.
Join us in supporting Worthington families in need by participating in Worthington Connects’ inaugural Christmas in July 5K! This family-friendly event welcomes everyone to come together and help us raise vital funds to support local families not only during the holiday season but also throughout the entire school year.
All race participants will receive a custom t-shirt and medal, ensuring a memorable keepsake of their participation. Rest assured, we’re committed to delivering a day filled with fun and festivities, as we come together to celebrate Christmas in July and show our unwavering support for the local community.
To wrap up the event, we’re planning an exciting costume contest with prizes generously provided by local businesses in our community. It’s the perfect way to add some extra fun and community spirit to our Christmas in July celebration! Worthington Connects, formerly known as the ‘Elves of Central Ohio,’ is a grassroots community organization founded by a group of moms dedicated to supporting families in need within the Worthington community, particularly during the holiday season. It all began with the simple act of adopting a single family from our children’s Worthington elementary school.
Our approach was simple yet effective: each member of our group would take responsibility for purchasing a specific item for the family, ensuring that every need was met. Then, we would gather together at the organizer’s home for a wrapping party, sharing food, drinks, and laughter as we prepared the gifts. It was a true sense of a community coming together to help out fellow community members.
As word of our efforts spread, our kids’ elementary school reached out with more families in need and our initiative quickly grew into a beloved tradition helping all schools in the Worthington School system. Over the past seven years, we’ve expanded our reach, providing support to over 100 families in 2023 alone.
In early 2022, we achieved a significant milestone by obtaining our 501(c)(3) designation, officially recognizing us as a non-profit organization. This designation empowers us to further expand our reach and impact, ensuring that we can continue to support even more families in the years to come.
