SUMMARY:Earth Day Challenge Half Marathon & 4 Miler
DESCRIPTION:[countdown year=”2017″ month=”4″ day=”23″ hour=”8″ minute=”0″] \n \nWhat better way to celebrate Earth Day than with your feet? You’ll run through historic Gambier and some of Ohio’s most scenic countryside on the expertly-maintained Kokosing Gap Trail. The Earth Day Challenge is a fully staffed and supported event with security\, medical and aid stations. While you’re pushing your body\, we’ll be treating it right; the aid stations and post-race spread will be chock full of nutritious and delicious foods and beverages. \nCelebrate Earth Day by running one of most stunning half marathon courses in Ohio.  The first four miles of the course traverse the campus of Kenyon College\, among the most picturesque colleges in the nation\, and the tiny village of Gambier.  Runners will then enter the expertly maintained Kokosing Gap Trail\, running through the Brown Family Environmental Center and along the Kokosing State Scenic River before finishing back at the Kenyon Athletic Center. \nNot up for a half marathon but still want in on the action?  Join our 4-mile run that runs the same course as the half marathon but ends after the loop through Kenyon College and Gambier. \nThe half marathon course is USATF certified\, is well marked\, is supported with aid-stations at least every two miles\, is staffed with bike-mounted and stationary first-aid marshals\, and has portable restrooms at several locations.  Our amazing volunteers will be assisted by Kenyon security officers and local law enforcement to control traffic and keep runners as safe as possible as they enjoy the run.  Parking near the athletic center is ample and free. \nIn keeping with Earth Day\, finisher and event awards are useful and reusable.  All finishers will earn an Earth Day Challenge mug (pre-washed by our volunteers!) that you can fill with warm or cold beverages at the post race spread.  And after you drink your fill\, you can fill the mug with a tree to plant when you get back home!  The top three male and female runners overall and age-group winners will earn an Earth Day Challenge running hat.  All runners will be able to check how they did at the post-race party immediately after the event using a real-time results kiosk and awards will be distributed on the spot! \nAll proceeds from this event sponsor local outdoor fitness initiatives\, such as trail runs\, cycling events\, and children’s programs. \n\nHow Your Support Helps \nAll our proceeds benefit local outdoor fitness initiatives\, such as trail runs\, cycling events\, and children’s programs. \nNO ADVANCED PACKET PICKUP – You may pickup your shirt and bib on race morning beginning at 6:45 am near the start line. \n\nProud Sponsors of the Earth Day Half Marathon\n       \n[button id=”button_70″ size=”small” link=”http://earthdaychallengehalfmarathon.itsyourrace.com/” icon=”icon-info” text_color=”#0d4559″ bg_color=”#0d4559″ text_color_hover=”#ffffff” bg_color_hover=”#0d4559″]Race Details[/button] \n[button id=”button_70″ size=”small” link=”http://earthdaychallengehalfmarathon.itsyourrace.com/Results.aspx?id=6769″ icon=”icon-external-link” text_color=”#0d4559″ bg_color=”#0d4559″ text_color_hover=”#ffffff” bg_color_hover=”#0d4559″]Results & Photos![/button]

The location of all obstacles are shared with you; however\, the TYPE of obstacle that you will encounter is “unknown.” Don’t worry though\, our obstacles aren’t as physically taxing compared to other races and you are provided with the option to skip an obstacle if necessary. \n \nStatistical boards with information about veteran-related mental health complications are strategically placed throughout the course. We highly recommend that you read and remember this information because you will be quizzed on the information at one of our Mental Checkpoints. The location of these checkpoints are undisclosed purposely to provide additional experiences of the “unknown.” \n \nThe goal of this event is to raise awareness about PTSD\, suicide prevention\, and mitigating the stigma associated with these issues within our military community. We aim to provide you with a physically\, mentally\, and an emotionally difficult course with your safety in mind. Experiencing PTSD and the “unknowns” associated with it\, creates frustration and discourse in the lives of those who suffer from it.
