DESCRIPTION:The Linden Classic 5k Run/Walk is an ode to one of Columbus’ oldest\, most well-established neighborhoods. The annual event is a unique celebration of faith\, fitness\, and fellowship. Organized by 13-year-old Zach Green in memory of his grandmother\, Marlin Marshall\, who died from complications of ALS in 2015. \n\nAn open letter from Zach Green:\n\nI am organizing this race (with the help of my parents) to raise money for the area’s local ALS Association\, which advocates for people with ALS and empowers them to live their lives to the fullest.\n\nSeveral years ago\, my grandmother Marlin Marshall died from the complications of ALS and this event is dedicated to her name and memory. Your race entry fees and your donations will help ALS-affected individuals and their families as they manage this awful\, degenerative disease. ALS gets worse over time\, and caring for ALS-affected loved ones is a physical and emotional challenge.\n\nIt’s actually the reason I wanted to host a 5k Run / Walk event.\n\nMy grandmother was active in her life and with me\, all the way up to the point where she could not be. She used to hike miles of mountains in a day\, but by the time the disease got a hold of her\, she had difficulty walking from her car to the house. She used to do spin classes\, and yoga\, and walk. But\, as ALS took hold\, she spent most of her day sitting down.\n\nMy mom always talks about watching ALS get worse\, and how her mom said that being able to move “is a gift”. USO-CSO is in 65 counties in Central and Southern Ohio\, West Virginia\, and Northern Kentucky. The mission is to keep America’s military service members connected to family\, home\, and country. The 1M Walk will begin at 8:30am with the 5K Run to follow at 9am. The 5K Run starts and finishes at the Olentangy Liberty High School Stadium. The 1M Walk route proceeds around the grounds of Olentangy Liberty High School. In addition to a fantastic event\, the Patriots for Freedom event will once again be holding a generous raffle with many donations from local businesses. Each event participant will receive one free raffle ticket with the opportunity to purchase additional tickets.\n \nHonor Flight recognizes our military veterans by funding trips to Washington D.C. to visit the war memorials. Each flight transports 82-87 veterans and costs a total of $62\,000 which is approximately $750 per veteran. Honor Flight has flown over 5\,000 veterans from Central Ohio since its inception in 2010. Last year we raised a record breaking $14\,000 and our goal is to break that in 2018.  \nAnother way to support the Cancer Care Run is by purchasing a Memorial Sign to be displayed on the race path\, the day of the race\, in honor of a loved one. DESCRIPTION:  \n \nJoin us in walking/running in our first ever Nourish 5k on September 23 at Fred Beekman Park. Your participation will help us raise money for our reforestation and restoration project in Iquitos\, Peru. \nNourish International is a student-run organization that is dedicated to ending extreme poverty through sustainable development. We are currently partnered with an NGO in Iquitos\, Peru. By joining us in either walking/running the 5k\, you will be helping us work towards our goal of eliminating extreme poverty. The race will take place on September 23 at Fred Beekman Park.
