There are some gradual climbs and a potential creek crossing (weather-dependent) on all ten laps. There will a designated area for athletes to set up camps to get through the day. The park also has a new playground for family to get there exercise! The event is a fundraiser for the Tiffin YMCA’s backpack program which feeds many families on weekends. SUMMARY:The Alicia Jarvis Butterfly Wagon 5K/Kids Fun Run
DESCRIPTION:– Register\n\n\n\n – Donate\n\n\n\n – Results\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Alicia Jarvis Butterfly Wagon 5K & Kids Fun Run is being held to honor our daughter\, sister\, niece\, cousin\, friend and inspiration\, Alicia.  Alicia was a beautiful\, smart\, and loving 17 year old junior student at Hamilton Township High School who was a member of the band. After she experienced a fall and was not improving\, that is when we heard the unthinkable words of a brain tumor on her brain stem that was inoperable.  While we were all trying to process the news\, Ali remained positive and upbeat even giving her doctors nicknames and sharing lots of smiles.  Ali was determined to pursue a degree in electrical engineering from Alabama University\, even after being told of her diagnosis.  Ali began treatment in March of 2014 and the brain tumor did not respond to the treatment and instead grew.  After many heartbreaking weeks as a patient at Nationwide Children’s Hospital we decided to bring Ali home for her final days.  During our time at Children’s we experienced the outpouring of support and encouragement from everyone we encountered.  Watching families\, who were also dealing with their own crisis and seeing that somedays the smallest things made you smile.  This year to honor our loved and extremely missed\, Alicia we wanted to purchase a Butterfly Wagon in her memory.  These wagons are used by the families at Nationwide Children’s Hospital to provide help transporting the children and their items during their time at the hospital. Set in a field of 3\,000 full-sized American flags\, visitors are able to dedicate flags to their personal heroes and join other community members in this deeply moving event. This year’s theme will honor Ohio Aviation Heroes\, and will include a Saturday evening concert and other programs throughout the weekend. \n\n\n\nThe Field of Heroes 5K starts near the Veteran’s Memorial at the Westerville Sports Complex (Cleveland Avenue and County Line Rd.)\, follow paths inside city of Westerville Parks\, cuts through Westerville fire station 111\, and then finishes through the full-sized American flags that make up the main Field of Heroes display. Participants receive a race shirt\, custom bib and a beautiful commemorative challenge coin.  \n\n\n\nLimited parking will be available at the Westerville Sports Complex and will close at 7:30AM (or earlier if the lot is filled to capacity). SUMMARY:Wipe Out Cancer 5K
DESCRIPTION:– Register\n\n\n\n – Donate\n\n\n\n – Results\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWipe Out Cancer 5K is raising money for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation\, as the search for a cure for Multiple Myeloma. The Wipe out Cancer 5k is being organized as a fund raiser for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) and all proceeds will be donated to the organization. \n\n\n\nA little back story on the race director: \n\n\n\n“I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma cancer in Oct 2020. Multiple Myeloma is the second most common form of blood cancer and has a 5-year survival rate of about 60%. By March of 2021\, they were able to get it into remission\, it will come back. On March 24\, 2021\, I was admitted into the James and received my dose of Chemo. On March 26\,2021\, I received some of my Stem Cells back and then was released 10 days later the cancer being in remission. It is still in remission today\, I know the cancer will come back\, as there is no cure as of today\, and this is where MMRF comes into play. They are searching for a cure for Multiple Myeloma\, but as of today\, there has been great progress in keeping the cancer in remission\, but no cure. Before the cancer\, and for the past 14 years\, I have done many races. Anything from the London Marathon to the Spartan Beast. 5k’s\, 10k’s\, 15k’s\, half marathons and 25k’s. I wanted to keep going after my treatment and 11 months after the treatments\, I was able to complete the Warmup Columbus Half Marathon and 2 weeks later the Ft. Lauderdale A1A Half Marathon. \n\n\n\nIn return for my fundraising\, I was given an entry into the NYC Marathon on November 2\,2025. This will be my 2nd World major\, with London being completed April 2024. One where kids could come and try out running events if they were new to it\, or challenge themselves to run further or faster than they had before. Maybe even get ready for their cross country season in the fall! \n\n\n\nSo what is this?\n\n\n\nA three event race series to take place in June\, July\, and August! \n\n\n\nRACE DATESJUNE 11th JULY 16thAUGUST 13thThe races will start promptly at 6:00pm in the evening\, so parents and kiddos can get to the races on time!  \n\n\n\nSounds great! Where are the races?\n\n\n\nWe have a loop course at Glacier Ridge Metro Park. The races will start at the Dog Park area of the park (Google Maps pin here)Course Map (1 and 2 mile options)available here Course Map (1/2 mile option) available here \n\n\n\nThat’s fun! Where/when will that be?\n\n\n\nPacket pick-up will be at the Fleet Feet Lewis Center location (google maps address here) \n\n\n\nThe event series packet pick-up will be at Fleet Feet Lewis Center.PPU Dates/Times are as follows:Wednesday June 11th 11am-5:15pm \n\n\n\nWednesday July 9th 11am – 5:15pm \n\n\n\nWednesday August 13th 11am – 4:30pm \n\n\n\nWill there be on-site Race Day registration and/or Packet Pick-Up?\n\n\n\nWe will have race day registration\, and packet pick-up!If you are registering on-site on race day\, be sure to bring your phone and/or credit card as our friends at Race Penguin will have a QR code to sign up using your phone.Volunteers may be able to assist you by walking you through on your phone\, but may not be able to help sign you up. \n\n\n\nHow do I choose the distance my athlete will race? Can they switch distances? \n\n\n\nSure thing! We understand that young athletes have their ups and downs just like adult athletes. It’s best to talk with your athlete multiple times before race day to see what distance they’d like to run. Try to ask them if they’d like to beat their previous best mile time\, or try a new distance. It’s always good to remind athletes that it’s ok to be nervous about a race\, but just remind them that they’ll learn something from each race experience no matter how it goes. \n\n\n\nAthletes should try to make their decision before the race if possible\, but if they need to switch after doing one loop they need to immediately tell the Race Penguin timing staff so we can ensure correct results.If they are switching from the 1/2-mile race to another distance\, DO NOT START WITH THE OTHER 1/2 MILE RACERS. Please see the Race Penguin staff before the start of the race you’re planning on racing so they can switch you. \n\n\n\nYou will select your distance FOR ALL THREE EVENTS during registration.
