SUMMARY:Move Because You Can
DESCRIPTION:  \nJoin us for a family-run\, charitable 5k in support of the local ALS Association\, which provides much-needed services to local ALS patients and their families. The course is fast and fun\, and all proceeds go to charity. Organized by 13-year-old Zach Green in memory of his grandmother\, Marlin Marshall\, who died from complications of ALS in 2015. \n\nAn open letter from Zach Green:\n\nI am organizing this race (with the help of my parents) to raise money for the area’s local ALS Association\, which advocates for people with ALS and empowers them to live their lives to the fullest.\n\nSeveral years ago\, my grandmother Marlin Marshall died from the complications of ALS and this event is dedicated to her name and memory. Your race entry fees and your donations will help ALS-affected individuals and their families as they manage this awful\, degenerative disease. ALS gets worse over time\, and caring for ALS-affected loved ones is a physical and emotional challenge.\n\nIt’s actually the reason I wanted to host a 5k Run / Walk event.\n\nMy grandmother was active in her life and with me\, all the way up to the point where she could not be. She used to hike miles of mountains in a day\, but by the time the disease got a hold of her\, she had difficulty walking from her car to the house. She used to do spin classes\, and yoga\, and walk. But\, as ALS took hold\, she spent most of her day sitting down.\n\nMy mom always talks about watching ALS get worse\, and how her mom said that being able to move “is a gift”. Most of us take that movement for granted. So\, now\, I move for my grandmother because I can. And\, I want you to do the same.\n\nCome out and move your body with me\, my family\, our friends\, and the community.
