The Buckeye Purple Heart Foundation & Buckeye Chapter 500 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart are proud to present our Annual 5K Night Run/Walk to honor those military veterans wounded or killed in service to our Nation. With a unique start time of 9:00 pm, to recognize the solemnity of the Purple Heart Medal, this will surely be a race like no other!
The organization now known as the “Military Order of the Purple Heart” was formed in 1932 for the protection and mutual interest of all who have received the decoration. Composed exclusively of Purple Heart recipients, it is the only veteran’s service organization comprised strictly of combat veterans. Buckeye Purple Heart Foundation is an IRS tax exempt 501(c)19 & 501(c)3 Veterans Service Organization and incorporated in the State of Ohio. Our annual event is held on the Saturday closest to National Purple Heart Day (August 7th). The skyline of Columbus and the trail are lit in purple to set a one of a kind racing atmosphere. All participants, including virtual participants, will receive a t-shirt and commemorative challenge coin for this event. We are requesting that, when registering for the virtual event, you provide your shirt size and address so we can mail you your participation gifts.
This year, we are celebrating the 90th anniversary of the revival of the Badge of Military Merit as the Purple Heart Medal & honoring Columbus native and Purple Heart Veteran Tom Beck – a wonderful & caring man who served our country bravely during the Korean War, then came home and proudly served his community.

Parking at the National Veterans Memorial and Museum will be free for veterans but $5 for all non-veterans attending the event.
